Language Development
Language is deeply rooted in culture and is acquired through learning. Just like our early ancestors, young children are born with the potential to speak, beginning with sounds before forming words. In a Montessori classroom, children learn the phonetic sounds of letters before they learn their names. This approach helps them understand that reading is simply blending sounds. Once they master the sounds, they begin blending them together to read, opening the door to endless exploration through signs, books, and more.

Math Development
In the Montessori environment, children learn basic math concepts using concrete materials that represent quantities. These specially designed materials allow children to physically manipulate items, helping them understand symbols like 1, 10, 100, and 1000. By counting, comparing, and combining these materials, children grasp arithmetic concepts through hands-on discovery. This process fosters a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for numbers that grows over time.

Practical Life Overview
“Exercises in Practical Life” are designed to help children develop independence by performing everyday tasks that they see in their own homes, such as cleaning up after snack time, putting on their jackets, or wiping spills. These activities may seem simple, but they are crucial for fostering responsibility and community-mindedness. By engaging in practical life activities, children learn to take care of themselves and their environment, which builds their confidence and competence.

Sensorial Overview
Sensorial exercises are essential for laying the groundwork for advanced learning, particularly in math. Through hands-on experiences, children learn to recognize similarities and differences in objects, helping them develop a strong understanding of concepts like size, shape, texture, and weight. These materials are designed to engage all the senses—sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell—creating a foundation for future learning. The order and timing of these exercises are personalized to each child’s developmental needs.

Cultural Studies, Zoology, and Geography
Cultural Studies, Geography, and Zoology are combined into one engaging area of the classroom, offering a broad view of the world. Children learn about different cultures, customs, and traditions, fostering appreciation for diversity. They explore geography through maps and globes, learning about landforms and their connections to the world. Zoology allows them to study animals, their parts, life cycles, and the natural environment. Through these studies, children gain a deeper understanding of the world and the people, animals, and nature within it.

  • Children will develop increasing independence as they care for themselves and their environment.
  • Daily lessons focus on phonics, pre-reading skills, math exercises like counting and arranging, and practicing grace and manners.
  • Children will work both independently and in group settings, encouraging collaboration and self-reliance.
  • “Show and Tell” is a key activity where children learn to speak in front of their peers, sharing a special story or object. Each class will have a designated “Show and Tell” day, and it’s important to stick to the weekly topic.

Health & Wellness

Our staff is trained to ensure your child’s health and safety. If your child is feeling unwell, we ask that you keep them home to help prevent the spread of illness. Please notify us if your child has any allergies or medical conditions so we can adjust our care accordingly.

Parent-Teacher Communication

Open communication is key to your child’s success. Teachers will provide regular updates on your child’s progress and are always available to address any questions or concerns you may have. We encourage a strong partnership between home and school to support your child’s growth.

Parent Involvement

We welcome and encourage parent involvement in the classroom. Whether it’s volunteering for special events, reading stories to the class, or sharing your unique cultural experiences, your participation adds an important dimension to your child’s learning journey.

Nurturing Independence

As your child moves through the Primary Classroom, they will be encouraged to take on more responsibility, whether it’s tidying up their work area, completing tasks independently, or helping classmates. The goal is to help them develop confidence in their abilities and a strong sense of ownership over their learning.

Social Development

Children in the Primary Classroom learn to work with others, resolve conflicts, and communicate their feelings. Through daily interactions, they develop strong social skills that will benefit them both in and out of the classroom. They learn to express empathy, share, and engage in collaborative problem-solving.

Looking Ahead

As your child continues their Montessori journey, they will build a strong foundation in academics, social skills, and personal development. The skills they acquire in the Primary Classroom will set them up for success in the Elementary years, as they grow into independent, curious, and responsible learners. We are here to guide, support, and nurture your child every step of the way!
